Do I need a steam oven?
No, you do not have to have a steam oven. All trays can go into a normal oven or microwave up to 220°C.
Will I have enough fridge space?
This depends on both the size of your centre, and the size of your fridge. As a guide, if children currently bring in their own food, you should have enough fridge space. Similarly, if you’re shopping once or twice a week for meals cooked in-house, you should also have enough fridge space. If you’re shopping more than twice a week however, you may require 2 separate deliveries. Our main meals are to be stored in the fridge, and most conveniently – can be stored for up to 10 days.
Will I have enough freezer space?
This depends on how big your centre is, and also how big your freezer is. The only food we recommend you put into the freezer is the last 3 days of afternoon tea IF they are not pre-packaged such as rice cakes.
How long is the shelf life on the food?
Up to 10 days from the day it is delivered to your centre.
Do I need to keep the food in the freezer?
No, you need to keep all main meals in the fridge.
How big are the serves?
Approximately 200g per child for lunch, as is recommended by our child dietitian, Kate Di Prima. Afternoon tea varies depending on density.
What day will the food be delivered?
You can nominate the day you wish to receive your meals. Generally speaking, deliveries are made Monday to Thursday (in refrigerated vans), across Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Cairns.
Do I need a kitchen licence?
Although every council is different, there has been a precedent set whereby childcare centres do not require a kitchen licence when partnered with Little Tummy Tucker.
Will I need an extra staff member to heat and serve the food?
We don’t believe so. All trays go directly from fridge to oven. The tray is then taken into the room to be served. The food tray is then dispensed of. Pretty simple!
What happens to the boxes the food comes in?
These boxes can be collected the following week, or your centre can dispose of them if you wish.
Who delivers the food?
The food is delivered by a friendly third party contractor in a refrigerated van. All of our contractors follow the HACCP principals and have acquired SafeFood accreditation.
How often is the food delivered?
The food is delivered once a week unless you request otherwise.
This centre has children with allergies. Can you provide food for them also?
Yes! Food provided for children with allergies or special dietary requirements is packaged separately, to avoid any chance of cross contamination. This meal will stand out with a red dot and is clearly labelled with a nutritional panel and heating instructions. This meal, what day it relates to, and the child it is for, is documented on the delivery sheet. All looked after!
